An Inter-Cambridge English Debate Competition

“Power to the Voice is Power to the People.”
An Inter-Cambridge English Debate Competition for Grades VI to XII was organized at Cambridge International School, Mohali campus on Saturday, 27th July 2024. The event witnessed participation from schools including #CambridgeInnovative, Jallandhar,
#CambridgeFoundation, Jallandhar, #CambridgeKapurthala, Cambridge Nakodar and the host, #CambridgeMohali. The students battled with their wits in the following categories:-
– Grade VI: “Should children under 14 be allowed on social media sites?”
– Grades VII & VIII: “Are humans to blame for global warming?”
– Grades IX & X:”Should education be free for all students?”
– Grades XI & XII: “The impact of Globalization on cultural identity.”
All topics were well-researched and prepared by students in consultation with their mentors. The competition commenced with much intensity, overseen by a two-panel jury of judges, Mr. Vishal Monga and Dr. Purvanshi Sharma from Chandigarh University.
The points presented were met with cheers and applause from the spectators. Some arguments even made the audience reconsider certain facts. The room was brimming with talent as arguments were made and proven. The competition was highly engaging, showcasing a variety of perspectives by equally stating the merits and demerits of each debate topic.
The aim of the debate competition was to hone the public speaking skills of the students and teach them to be articulate while expressing their thoughts and opinions. The session was a kaleidoscope of opinions, thoughts, and perspectives.
The competition concluded with #winners being awarded prizes and a #voteofthanks by the Principal, Dr. Rohit Pande.
